Did you know?
As you can see from the photo, yellow-necked storks are yawning. But why?
- Thermoregulation:
Yawning can help regulate body temperature by increasing the flow of air around the head and neck.
- Adaptation and relaxation:
Yawning can be a way of physically readjusting and relaxing the neck and jaw muscles.
- Balancing pressure:
It can also be used to equalise the pressure in the air cavities of the head, especially after rapid changes in altitude during flight.
