The jabiru, with its elegant stature and striking plumage, hides an interesting feature: the color of its eyes varies depending on the sex. The female is distinguished by her golden-yellow eyes, while the male has dark brown or black eyes. Additionally, the male has two small caruncles at the base of his lower mandible, adding another subtle difference between the sexes.
